OUR APPROACH

First Principles Costing

We calculate costs by first principles estimation and obtain up to date quotes for capital and materials where possible.

Providing the expected output to our clients requires good information and an expert approach

We understand that real costs and real work happens underground – this is where you get to know the individual cost components (first principles) of an activity and go beyond a basic overall cost assumption. Our practical underground mining engineering experience gives us knowledge of costs in finer detail, for more accurate results.

We generate reliable information. A platform that is 100% right in its accuracy; even so it’s backed by a system for double-checking and reconciling the calculation outputs. Experience also helps spot errors quickly and easily (e.g. unit rates, productivity/team numbers/contractor rates), knowing what the cost is most likely to be. This also allows me to provide insight into cost differences among tenders to help my client make the right choice.

We involve our clients. We like our clients to have some input into their costing and I can consult with your on-the-ground engineers throughout the process to get informed inputs – e.g. asking questions on actual prices pertinent to and if an operating mine – i.e. using real data.

Providing the expected output to our clients requires a satisfying experience for all involved

We derive satisfaction from educating and explaining how it works. Talking to the people involved and explaining WHY costs are as they present e.g. teaching younger engineers about fixed and variable costs, fixed costs bearing on unit costs, why the price variations.

We derive satisfaction from providing contracting insight to engineers. Giving on-the-ground mining engineers insight into the contracting process.

We derive satisfaction from providing targeted, niched advice to benefit clients e.g. by preparing a draft underground mining contract independently, tailored to specific requirements, ensuring a smooth process and relationship between client and contractor.
